Japanese Adverising Design
Visuals-intensive ads
An ad that shows only the object has several ways to proceed. It
can show the object as a purist work of art, alone, unadorned, without
context, for contemplative appreciation. It might also show the object in
an unusual way, e.g., life size (versus the smaller or larger than life
halftones that are normal in a newspaper or magazine), or emphasizing an
unusual detail.
I give two example of this style, one with a photograph,
suggesting the materiality and quality of the rice; the other is a hand
drawing, suggesting its relationship with human culture.
